There are very few venues in Somerset with quite as much history, character, and visual drama as Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet. Rooted in the town’s rich industrial past – from wool and lace to brewing and cider – this extraordinary site has been many things over the centuries, and its latest chapter is perhaps its most captivating yet.

The three-and-a-half acre gardens were first laid out in the 1880s by Ernest Jardine, a visionary MP for East Somerset who created a model factory and ‘Jardine’s Park’ for the welfare of his workers. In the 1950s, Herbert Showering – of Babycham fame – purchased the site and commissioned a stunning new garden layout, including a rockery designed by Chelsea Flower Show medal-winner George Whitelegg. The iconic Charlton railway viaduct, built in 1874, provides one of the most dramatic backdrops you’ll find at any venue in England.

Today, Kilver Court is an RHS Partner Garden and a cherished events venue, lovingly brought back to life by the Showering family after they reacquired it in 2021. The beautiful ballroom is a perfect setting for weddings, private dinners, and celebrations of all kinds, while the café, gardens, and boutique shops draw visitors year-round.
